Well-known food blogger raises funds for Goducate with his book launch

Leslie Tay signing his book at the book launch

Dr Leslie Tay, one of Singapore’s most popular food bloggers (http://ieatishootipost.sg) and loyal Goducate supporter has yet again found an opportunity to raise funds for us.His blog posts have been turned into a book entitled The End of Char Kway Teow and Other Hawker Mysteries. He not only arranged for Goducate to purchase 2000 of his books at cost price, so that profits from the sale of these books can go to Goducate, but he also arranged for the proceeds of the tickets for the book-launch lunch to be given to Goducate.

The funds thus raised will go towards helping build  schoolhouses in Sabah—-which in most cases will consist of a few poles supporting a roof of some kind, with, possibly, a low wall as well. Goducate will stick to its principle of “helping Asians to help themselves”, so the local community will still have to contribute whatever it can in terms of labour and material. The funds raised will supplement what the locals cannot supply.

The roast duck and abalone lunch, held at Paradise Pavilion, was jointly sponsored by the Paradise restaurant and catering group and food distributor (and abalone importer) Goh Joo Hin Pte Ltd. Goducate would like to thank these sponsors and Leslie Tay and his ieatishootipost eating community for their generous support.

The book gives an account of the evolution of the classic Singaporean hawker dishes, tells where to find good examples of these dishes, and describes some of the personalities of the stallholders, all in Leslie Tay’s lively, chatty style.

Goducate still has a few copies of the book “The End of Char Kway Teow And Other Hawker Mysteries” for sale. You can place your orders online.
