Update of development of Goducate Training Center in Iloilo, Philippines

A canal was made to drain water from the pond. However, soil along the canal would collapse at certain sections so the flow of water is impeded. To solve this problem, 3-ft diameter concrete culverts will have to placed into the canal and covered with gravel and soil.

Proposed Agricultural and Agricultural related projects at Camp Goducate, Iloilo

Our agricultural team at the Goducate Training Center in Iloilo, Philippines have proposed several interesting projects for the Center.

Agriculture is an important part of the training of Goducate workers because they will be working among poor communities in Asia, and the majority of the poor in Asia still live in rural communities. We hope that Goducate workers will be able to help poor Asians to maximally utilize the land around them through modern, sustainable, small-scale farming.

Therefore, our agricultural planning team is designing a living laboratory of good agricultural practices in the Camp. Our trainees will be involved “hands on” with these different projects during their training period with us so that they will be able to transfer some of what they have learned at the Camp to the communities in which they will eventually work.

Some of the proposed agricultural projects on the Camp are:

Hybrid rice production using organic fertilizer and organic integrated pest management practices.

Fish farming in rice fields.

Vermi-composting for production of organic fertilizer.

Bio-intensive vegetable farming.

Fruit orchard with durian, jackfruit, marang, seedless pomegranates, mangosteen, cocoa, etc.

Livestock, small ruminant (goats) and poultry farming.

Forage area of grass and legumes for fattening of cattle and small ruminants.

Chicken and duck egg production

Cut-flower production.

Apiculture (bee-farming) for honey production and increased pollination of plants on camp-site.

We hope that our trainees will learn the principles and practices of good agriculture and be able to transfer what is suitable to the communities that they will eventually work in!

Good agricultural practices provide the fastest ways to help poor Asians help themselves!

HERMES CERBO – is our campsite Architect and our Project Manager. He is the one taking care of all the matters in construction. Hermes worked in a Singapore architectural firm for four years,

JUDE LANGUB – is our Electrical Engineer. He is a retired senior officer of a private electric company in Panay.

GLEN GIRAO – is an Electrical Engineer, who presently working in an Electric Power Corporation who distributes electric power in different power companies. He’s helping as a volunteer consultant.

JERU SAMILO – ia a civil engineer who does our structural plans and supervises our work. He is also our camp program director .

MARTIN CERBO – is an architect and a contractor. He and his team will do the construction of our Multi-purpose Hall.

RIC PATRICIO – is an agriculture expert who is our volunteer agricultural consultant.

HOPE PATRICIO – is the soil expert who does all the soil testing for us. She also helps us putting our nursery. She is the wife of Ric Patricio.

MEPHIBOY – he is a Electronic Communication Engineer working in a Technical School but has offered to resign to help us on the farm. He was born and raised in his family farm.

JUN RUIZ – he is a plant pathologist. He is a part-time volunteer.

MAYETH MARRERO – is our building construction secretary and bookkeeper
