New classrooms for the Goducate Children’s Home

The Goducate Children’s Home in Prey Nob, Cambodia, accepted 13 new children in April last year. In a few more weeks, they will be taking in five more children. At the moment, due to the lack of space, some of the kids had to have their homeschool lessons in the mess hall.

The Home recently started the construction of a building which will house at least two new classrooms. This building was sponsored by a generous donor at a cost of US$10,000/-.

Hopefully, the building will be fully furnished and ready for the new academic year which starts in September, and the children can begin their lessons in comfortable new premises.

Fishing for tilapia at the Goducate Children’s Home

Not long ago, our administrators at the Goducate Children’s Home in Cambodia reported that their tilapia fish ponds have taken off with lots of new fingerlings spawned within a short period of time.

It was thus with great anticipation that the Goducate representatives decided to try our hand at fishing when we visited the Home two weeks ago (20 to 23 July, 2011).

And we were not disappointed! Within 20 minutes, we managed to catch at least half a dozen medium sized tiliapia!

Good catch!

Most of the hundreds of fishes are still in the ‘nursery’ stage. They will be full grown by year-end and will be ready for harvesting for sale at the local supermarket. Just another step for our Goducate Children’s Home to take in the process to become self-sufficient and for them to help themselves.

Groundbreaking ceremony at site of Talahiban music learning center

The day after materials for the music learning center were delivered to the site, we held a groundbreaking ceremony, attended by the Captain of the barangay (administrative division) and 4 of the councillors as well as parents of our students. The barangay officials assured us of their support for the activities we plan for the center.

Immediately after that, staff and students set to work getting rid of the trees to clear the ground for the music learning center and a staff house.
