It’s branding time!

Christmas is the time when people tend to buy gifts for others and themselves. Goducate has produced a range of Goducate products just in time for this season. The primary purpose of these products is to help publicize the Goducate name and make it a well-known “brand.” It is our dream to make Goducate the first name that comes to mind when people think of “helping poor Asians help themselves.”

It is our dream to make Goducate the first name that comes to mind when people think of “going to educate people, so that they can help themselves.” Hopefully, the word “goducate” will become a verb for the act of “going out to educate”! It will be so nice to hear people say “Let’s goducate these poor kids!”

It is also our dream to make Goducate the first name that comes to peoples’ minds when they think of “making help connect between the helper and the helpless.”

All these are just dreams now! BIG dreams!! But unless we think BIG, how can we be a blessing to Asia – where half the world’s population lives? Where there is a desperate need for many to get a decent chance to be educated – in literacy, in computer skills, in livelihood skills and, most importantly, in life itself!

Big dreams can only become a reality when we take steps – starting with little steps, like producing Goducate postcards, photo-frames, car-decals and post-it pads.

Big dreams can only become a reality when you help us to send these little postcards to your friends, place a photo-frame with a picture of a little Cambodian orphan on your office desk or in your living room, stick a Goducate decal on your car or stick little Goducate post-it notes on your office bulletin board.

Let’s join together and begin this long journey to help the helpless by taking these little steps!

Blessed Christmas and New Year!!

Goducate volunteers build Goducate Center in Laguna Philippines

The Goducate Learning Center is now under construction in Laguna, which is in the heart of recent flood hit areas in the Philippines. As it is the December vacation time for the young people, so there were a lot of volunteers to shovel and mix the cement, sand and gravel… we only have one hired worker who is the expert.

Goducate often uses volunteers in our projects. This is very cost efficient. The land for the learning center was donated by a single mum” and the local authorities granted permission to cut some coconut trees to provide the lumber for this building.

We hope that before this year ends we can finish the construction and make use of this building by January.

Visit to STTL

Recently, we made a fruitful visit to the Jogjakarta School of Environmental Engineering also known as Sekolah Tinggi Listrik Lingkungan or STTL at the end of the semester, to visit our English teachers and see the progress at the student center.

The plain looking student center has been livened up with posters and pictures, and cosy English corners were created to encourage students to come in to practise their English with our teachers.

The response wasn’t good in the beginning, with just a handful of students coming in but things have changed! The teachers hold their English corners for an hour and a half from Mondays to Fridays, from 4 pm to 530pm, but students sometimes stayed on late till 7pm because they enjoyed their interaction with our friendly teachers so much! It was hard for our teachers to tell them to leave!

Different English corners are created to cater to the different interests of the students. Subjects as varied as Music, Culture, Recycling and even Public Speaking are available. Here are two of our American teachers facilitating the discussions on a busy Tuesday afternoon.
